When I’m writing by hand, I most often use a mechanical pencil, and have for over 20 years. The Staedtler Integrity 9505 is, hands down, the best mechanical pencil I have ever used. Why? The comfortable rubber grip is one reason, but the pencil’s outstanding feature is it’s double clutch lead feed. The pencil grips the lead at the very tip. That means the lead doesn’t twist and slip when you’ve nearly used up a lead. There’s no wobble when writing with the Integrity, and there’s very little wasted lead. It’s as close to perfect as a mechanical pencil can get.
